Big bags for pellets — biofuel packaging from the manufacturer

Filled big bags for pellets at a biofuel producer's warehouse — UKRBAGPACK packaging

Pellets are lighter than grain: the bulk density of wood pellets is 600–680 kg/m³, so a standard ~1 m³ big bag holds only about 650 kg. A full tonne of pellets needs the larger 95×95×180 cm size. Moisture protection is mandatory — a wet pellet crumbles into dust, so we use laminated fabric or a polyethylene liner.

How many pellets fit in a big bag

Capacity depends on the fuel type. The table shows bulk density of the most common fuels, the actual weight in a ~1 m³ bag and the size we recommend for a full tonne:

FuelBulk densityWeight in a ~1 m³ bagSize for 1000 kg
Wood pellets 6/8 mm600–680 kg/m³≈ 650 kg95×95×180 cm
Sunflower husk pellets550–600 kg/m³≈ 580 kg95×95×190 cm

Wood chips, sawdust250–350 kg/m³≈ 300 kgoversized volume to order

Why moisture protection is critical for pellets

A pellet is pressed without glue and held together by lignin: once it absorbs moisture it swells, crumbles and loses heating value, while the dust clogs the boiler auger. That is why we use laminated fabric or a 90–120 µm polyethylene liner — it blocks condensation and atmospheric moisture for the whole storage period.

For outdoor storage you also need a top filling skirt and UV-stabilised fabric: without the stabiliser, polypropylene loses strength after a season in the sun.

Discharging into a boiler, auger or hopper

Boiler houses discharge pellets in doses — that requires a bottom discharge spout: untie the sleeve and the pellets flow into the hopper without dust or losses, tie it back to stop the flow. The bag stays intact and, with a 6:1 safety factor, works for 2–3 cycles in your own logistics.

Price and seasonality

A big bag for pellets costs from UAH 200/pc depending on size, lamination or liner and batch volume. Packaging orders peak in August–October, so summer purchases are cheaper and faster. Standard sizes ship from our Zhytomyr warehouse in 1 working day. Minimum order — 50 pcs; free delivery for orders over 5,000 pcs.

FAQ

How many pellets does a standard big bag hold?

A ~1 m³ big bag holds about 650 kg of wood pellets (bulk density 600–680 kg/m³). For a full tonne you need the larger 95×95×180 cm size.

Which big bag do I need for 1 tonne of pellets?

95×95×180 cm made of laminated fabric or with a polyethylene liner. Add a bottom discharge spout for unloading into a hopper or auger.

Can pellets be stored outdoors in big bags?

Yes, under three conditions: UV-stabilised fabric, a top filling skirt and a liner or lamination against moisture. Ideally — under a canopy on pallets.

Are pellet big bags single-use or reusable?

Both. Shipments to customers usually use single-trip SF 5:1 bags; for a boiler house's own logistics, reusable SF 6:1 bags with a spout withstand 2–3 full cycles.
